The Botulinum Toxin Type A (BTA) injection is a treatment that uses BTA which has been approved for safety to revitalize and regenerate skin cells and cure wrinkles.

These are things you need to know before undergoing BTA injection:

1. Bruises might occur around the treatment areas which usually happen after normal injection. Bruises normally disappear within 2-3 days.

2. This treatment is prohibited for pregnant women, women during lactation or anyone who has muscle weakness.

3. Treatment for big molar and wrinkles around mouth might weaken the ability to chew food, ability to suck water by straw, and ability to pronounce certain words due to temporary muscle weakness. All of these symptoms will get better spontaneously within 1-2 weeks.
4. Uneven distribution of BTA may occur and lead to the following temporary side effects 1) patients can not fully open their eyes or slackening of eyelids 2) uneven of two angles of their mouth 3) uneven of each side of the face when laughing or smiling. All of these symptoms will also get better spontaneously within 1-2 weeks.
5. For the deep wrinkles that appear for many years, the treatment with only BTA may not be fully effective. Patients are recommended to choose additional treatments such as Filler injection for a better result.
6. Treatments for firming or changing structure of the face may need 2-3 times of treatments to be effective. In addition, additional treatments such as Mesotherapy, Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) treatment, Iontophoresis, Microdermabrasion, and Chemical Peeling may be needed for a better result.
7.  The treatment with BTA will last approximately 4-8 months depending on type of treatments and individual’s skin conditions. The treatments can be repeated upon request from patients. After the first treatment, the repeat injection before expiring of efficiency of the BTA will help the BTA to last longer for the next treatment.
